Despite the Disley competition being squashed by bad weather, eight players rallied for an impromptu match dubbed ‘The Die Hard Cup.’
Our trophy, a steal at £1.95 from a local charity shop, looked more like a relic than an award to be honest and didn’t deter our plucky teams, ‘The 4 Balls’ and ‘Club Tropicana’.
The teams battled it out in singles format on a course that held up well. Lift, clean and replace was in play today however to our surprise winter mats were not required. Unfortunately members were challenged with eight unpredictable fairway greens… that is, they were a challenge if you actually remembered a temporary green was in play and not rely on GPS. Doh!
We were blessed with glorious sunshine today and Manchester didn’t disappear into the mist, giving us a scenic distraction from the usual chorus of ‘Four Right!’.
In the end, the match ended all square and we all went home trophy-less, leaving our relic to gather dust until the next calamity strikes. Antrobus, you’re on notice—don’t you dare rain on our parade!”
